Arrival in Budapest by motorcoach, breakfast at the hotel. With a local guide you will get to know the hilly side of Budapest: Buda during a city tour. After lunch in the city center, have a guided visit in the House of Terror. Afterwards, dinner and overnight in the hotel.
BUDAPEST CITY TOUR :
The guests will be acquainted with the most famous sights of the city (e.g. Heroes Square – with statues of the historical Hungarian kings, City Park with Europe’s largest thermal spa, Andrássy Avenue, Opera House, St Steven’s Cathedral, Parliament, Chain Bridge, Castle District, Matthias Church, Fishermen’s Bastion), the most interesting stories of the locals, and general information about history, the city, and life in Hungary. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel in Budapest.
Breakfast at hotel. Visit the second largest Baroque Palace of the world in Gödöllo! The interior visit of the museum in the Palace and the tour through the garden of the Chateau give you a glimpse of times under the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Next, we drive to a traditional horse farm where you will be welcomed with Hungarian “Pogácsa” (salty scones) and with the national welcome drink, pálinka. Horsemen will take us for a Carriage Ride through the area and will invite you to a traditional Horse Show. Light lunch on the horse farm. Then we continue to Eger, considered to be a Baroque pearl of Hungary. Spend the afternoon with walking among the centuries-old architectural heritage (guided walk). Taste the famous Bull’s Blood of Eger, among other excellent wines. Wine-tasting and dinner, then overnight in a hotel in downtown Eger.
After breakfast look at one of the most significant attractions of Eger: the Eger Castle, an important stronghold in the fight against the Turks, from where there is a wonderful panoramic view to the city. Afterwards, travel to Hollóko, a living museum village, which has preserved the warm, person-centred, friendly atmosphere of the diminishing village-life of the accelerated 21st century. The ‘Old-village’ is part of the World Heritage by the UNESCO. During a home hosted lunch the guests (in groups of 6-8) are accompanied to family houses for lunch, where typical Hungarian dishes await for them. The guests can get acquainted with the life and habits of an average Palóc family. Afterwards we return to Budapest, farewell dinner in a local restaurant with folklore show, then overnight in the hotel in downtown Budapest.
Breakfast at hotel. We take the highway towards Lake Balaton and within a good 2 hours driving we arrive to Keszthely, which is the cultural capital of Lake Balaton, located on the western shore of the lake. For sightseeing it is worth visiting the pedestrian street in the centre and the nearby Festetics Palace.
Then we drive along the northern shore of the lake. First we stop at Badacsony Hill, which is a special wine region of Hungary with volcanic soil. Possibility for freetime or lunch.
After lunch we drive along the shore to arrive to Tihany. The village is built on a peninsula, and the centre is the Benedictine Abbey. From there we can admire the spectacular view on the lake. We visit the abbey and the open-air village museum.
After a few minutes drive from Tihany, we arrive to Balatonfüred, where we have our hotel accommodation at the lakeside. There is possibility to swim in the lake (in case of good weather) or the group can take a walk in the town, which has an atmosphere dating back to the 19th century. Dinner and overnight in a hotel in Balatonfüred.
After breakfast we leave the Balaton area and drive towards north. Within an hour driving we reach the town of Herend, where we can visit the Porcelain Mini-manufactory. This is a small interactive museum with porcelain painting and making. Afterwards we drive to the Pannonhalma Abbey, the oldest active religious institution of Hungary that is over 1000 years old. After lunch we visit the Benedictine Monastery, a World Heritage site. Then we continue to the Baroque town, Gyor (walking sightseeing tour – no entrance fee). Dinner and overnight in a hotel in Gyor.
Breakfast at hotel. The Danube Bend – an excursion into Hungary’s history – we take you to Esztergom (Center of the Catholic Church – interior visit) and to Visegrád, the former Royal Residence. After lunch we carry on to the Baroque Artists’ Village Szentendre (guided walk). Possibility to visit the Margaret Kovács Museum of ceramic figures. Afterwards we return to Budapest. Farewell dinner with folklore show in a local restaurant. Accommodation in a hotel in downtown Budapest.
After breakfast, packing up your bags and take the leave from your hotel and you will be directly transferred to the Budapest International airport from where you can fly back to your homeland.
