HOUSE OF TERROR MUSEUM :
The House of Terror is a museum, the only one of its kind, a monument to the memory of all those who were held captive, tortured and killed in this building in two bloody periods of the Hungarian history: the World War with II., the period of Nazi occupation and the communist totalitarianism. In the autumn of 1944, when the Hungarian Nazis came to power, the basement of this building was used as a prison. Then it was turned into the headquarters of the Secret Police force during the communist period. The museum, while presenting the horrors in a tangible way, also intends to make people understand that the sacrifice for freedom was not in vain. It also presents a picture of the life of the Hungarians at the time. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.
After breakfast at the hotel, participate in a guided tour of the Holocaust Memorial Centre. Live interview with a survivor of this period who will share her experience with the group. After a picnic lunch in a park in the city, the city tour continues with the Pest side, with the theme “the footsteps of the heroes of the World War II.”. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.
HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL CENTRE :
The Holocaust Memorial was opened in 2004 on the site of a former synagogue partially rebuilt for the occasion. The importance of this museum has become even bigger with some people today denying the existence of the Holocaust. The interactive exhibition introduces the history of the Jewish and Roma Holocaust through multimedia on touch-screens, by displaying original documents and objects, leading the visitors through specifically structured real personal and family histories. Beyond commemorating the victims, the emphasis of the exhibition is on education and assisting new generations to deal with the horrors of the past.
After breakfast in the hotel, guided tour of the old Jewish ghetto, with entry into the Great Synagogue of Dohány Street – the largest synagogue in Europe – and visit the Jewish Museum. Afternoon is free in downtown Budapest. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DOHANY STREET GREAT SYNAGOGUE :
During the tour you will discover the most important Jewish monument of the Hungarian capital and the second largest synagogue in the world. At the heart of the former Jewish ghetto, the Dohány Street Synagogue houses the Jewish Museum (included in the tour), and you will be guided to the famous Tree of Life, Temple of Heroes and cemetery in the Jewish memorial garden.
After breakfast, packing up your bags and take the leave from your hotel and you will be directly transferred to the Budapest International airport from where you can fly back to your homeland.
