Vientiane (sandalwood city) has been the capital and the largest city of Laos from the early 16th century to the present. Locating on the majestic Mekong River and the border of Thailand, Vientiane is renowned for French colonial architecture. That Luang - the most significant national monument in Laos and the symbol of Laos in general and an icon of Buddhism in Laos in particular. It is a place you shouldn’t miss. Here is also popular for magnificent and old Buddhist temples such as Haw Phra Kaew, formerly put up the Emerald Buddha. Overnight in Vientiane.
After breakfast, Today you will have the opportunity to visit the highlights of Vientiane including Vat Phra Keo, one of the most magnificent and attractive temples in the city. Vat Phra Keo was built in 1565 as a home for the Emerald Buddha. You will then visit Wat Sisaket, the oldest original temple in Vientiane with remarkable frescoes and over 6,000 Buddha images. With the thousands of silver and porcelain images in glorious temples, this is the Vientiane of the past.
And finally, we transfer to Vientiane airport for the flight to Xieng Khuang. Upon arrival, we will transfer to our hotel where you can relax for the rest of the day. Stay overnight in Xieng Khuang.
This morning after breakfast, we head to the majestic Plain of Jars which is a renowned archaeological site. It has stumped curious scientists and historians for decades. Giant stone vessels that are thought to be thousands of years old lie scattered in the fields. Some international scientists think the vessels are linked to burial practices of ancient communities that once lived in this area. However, no one knows for sure who created the vessels, how old they are or what their exact purpose was. It still remains a mystery today.
Next, we will stroll around a village to learn about the rural life of the local people. Followed by a visit to a small monastery in Ban Xiengdi and Muang Khoun, the one place in the old provincial capital that still remained after it was badly destroyed by bombs during the war. After that, we will transfer back to Phonesavanh and stay overnight at the hotel here. Stay overnight in Xieng Khuang.
This morning after breakfast, we head for Luang Prabang by the scenic route. It takes around 6 hours by car but we will take in the daily life of local people along the way.
We will have lunch at Sala Phoukhou at your own expense. After lunch, we will continue to Luang Prabang and enjoy more wonderful scenery along the way.
In the afternoon, we will climb up to the top of Phousi Hill from where we have spectacular panoramic views of Luang Prabang town. After that, we will return to the hotel in Luang Prabang where you can choose to relax, explore the night market or visit the peaceful city.
After that transfer back to our hotel in Luang Prabang for staying overnight.
After breakfast, you will embark a city tour of Luang Prabang, starting with the former Royal Palace, now the National Museum, where you will discover the history of Laos. Marvel at the range of interesting artifacts from the Lao royal family, including photos, musical instruments, and many presents received from the dignitaries of foreign countries. We will visit Wat Visoun, the shrine of Wat Aham and Wat Mai with five impressively tiered roofs.
Leaving the stunning Royal Palace, we will head to Kuang Si Waterfall, southwest of Luang Prabang (32km). The scenic drive of about 45 minutes takes us through the lush countryside with views of rice paddies and many ethnic minority villages. During the journey, we will stop at your request to visit some villages of the various ethnic minorities in the area. Upon arrival at the falls, relax and enjoy the spectacular scenery, and if the weather permits, you can enjoy a swim in the cool, refreshing waters. Otherwise, you can climb up to the top of the falls where magnificent views await you. After visiting the falls, we will drive back to Luang Prabang in the late afternoon. On route, stop to explore Ban Xangkhong, a village which specializes in hand-weaving silk and making traditional Saa Paper. Stay overnight in Luang Prabang.
After breakfast at your hotel, start your exploration of the vibrant Luang Prabang with the city’s oldest temples of Wat Sene and Wat Xieng Thong. The lavish ochre and gold interiors of Wat Sene will certainly leave you in awe. Continue to wander through the enchanting Wat Xieng Thong, a striking example of classical Laotian architecture and prepare to be dazzled by the temple’s sweeping tiered roofs.
Following a visit to the ancient Wat Xieng Thong, one of the most beautiful temples in Luang Prabang, we will embark on a traditional riverboat for a two-hour trip upstream on the Mekong River to visit the stunning caves of Pak Ou, and marvel at thousands of gold-lacquered Buddha statues. The next stop is Ban XangHai, a village which specializes in making traditional rice-wine. You will then have the opportunity to stroll around Ban Pak Ou Village, a small Laotian fishermen’s village on the Mekong River. Leaving the fishing village, we conclude the boat trip at Ban MuangKeo Village to see weavers working on the ancient loom. Afterwards, we take the boat back down the Mekong to return Luang Prabang. Stay overnight in this bustling city.
Have breakfast in our hotel and you will have free time to discover the city until our driver pick you up at your hotel(approximate 3 hours before your departure flight time) then transfer you to the airport for flight home.
