Jordan, an Arab nation on the east bank of the Jordan River, is defined by ancient monuments, nature reserves, and seaside resorts. It’s home to the famed archaeological site of Petra, the Nabatean capital dating to around 300 B.C. Set in a narrow valley with tombs, temples, and monuments carved into the surrounding pink sandstone cliffs, Petra earns its nickname, the "Rose City." Jordan's most famous national park is Wadi Rum, where you can spend the night amid the silent desert expanse at a simple Bedouin Beit Shar (goat-hair tent) encampment. Amman is Jordan's capital city, as well as its culinary capital.
Ahlan Wa Sahlan! Welcome to Amman, a cosmopolitan city steeped in biblical history. On arrival at Queen Alia International Airport, you will be met by Why Jordan representative and transferred to your hotel in Amman for overnight.
After breakfast, drive north to Jerash where you’ll find some of the world’s best Greco-Roman ruins. Reaching its peak as a favorite of the emperor Hadrian, Jerash holds a striking collection of archways, theatres, baths, public buildings, and colonnaded streets. Your leader will share the incredible history of the ruins and help you imagine what life once looked like in this glorious Roman city. Grand columns encircle the city's centerpiece of the Oval Plaza – an atmospheric place to linger after exploring Jerash's riches. Continue to the Amman Citadel located 132 meters above the level of the City Centre. South of the castle we can still see the ruins of Hercules temple. Also, there is Umayyad palace. The adventure continues then with exploring the Roman Amphitheater. Its construction dates to the beginning of the Second Century AD. Return to Amman Hotel.
After breakfast. You will drive to visit Madaba along the 5,000-year-old King’s Highway is one of the most memorable journeys in the Holy Land, passing through a string of ancient sites. The first city to encounter is Madaba, “the City of Mosaics." The city, best known for its spectacular Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics, is home to the famous 6th century mosaic map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. With two million pieces of colored stone, the map depicts hills and valleys, villages, and towns as far as the Nile Delta. Then continue to within the area to Mount Nebo, one of the most revered holy sites of Jordan and the place where Moses was buried. A small Byzantine church was built there by early Christians, which has been expanded into a vast complex. During his visit to Jordan in 2000, the Late Pope John Paul II held a sermon here that was attended by some 20,000 faithfuls’.
Visit Petra. Petra is justifiably on most people’s list of ‘must-visit’ places. The iconic Petra view – the Treasury's glorious facade, glimpsed from the narrow cleft known as the Siq – is arguably the single most striking sight of the entire region. The Siq leads through the rock and is sometimes only a few meters wide, with walls soaring up to 180 meters on either side. Join your guide and explore the old Roman road, amphitheater, and several old tombs, before enjoying free time to experience Petra at your own pace. Maybe climb up to the Monastery, carved from a mountain summit, where you’ll find magnificent views of the entire site.
Dinner and overnight at Wadi Rum Camp.
Breakfast at wadi rum camp hotel, 2hrs. jeep ride. This is a stupendous, timeless place, virtually untouched by humanity and its destructive forces. Here, it is the weather and winds that have carved the imposing, towering skyscrapers, so elegantly described by T.E. Lawrence as “vast, echoing and God-like..." A maze of monolithic rocks capes rise from the desert floor to heights of 1,750m creating a natural challenge for serious mountaineers. Hikers can enjoy the tranquility of the boundless empty spaces and explore the canyons and water holes to discover 4000-year-old rock drawings and the many other spectacular treasures this vast wilderness holds in store. Check in at Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth (420 meters below sea level). This isn’t a sea, but rather a super-salty lake (dead because of the lack of life in it) where the density of the water means you’ll go for a float, not a swim. The mud here is supposed to have healing properties, so why not cover yourself from head to toe for a nutrient-rich natural mineral mud bath.
Your trip comes to an end today after breakfast. Check-out time is usually at 12:00 noon. Later, you’ll continue to Amman Airport for departure.
